Boomerang Billionaire

by Lyric Lansing

Gracie pauses, and I hear the hurt there, the remnants of the argument we’ve both tried to move past. “But this time, I’ll trust in us, in what we’re building together.”

I squeeze her hand, letting her know I understand. This fear of hers, this feeling of not fitting into my world—is what had pulled us apart before. And this time, I know I’m not letting anything, especially not my work, get in the way of making her feel secure with me.

“So, it’s official,” I murmur, pulling her close again. “You’re mine, and I’m not letting you go. We are back together.”

Her smile widens, and she leans in, her voice a whisper against my lips. “Good. Because I’m not going anywhere, Rafe.”

Just as Gracie begins to say something else, my phone buzzes, interrupting the moment. I reach over to the nightstand, glance at my phone, and see a text from the pilot. It says that our plane will be ready to depart in thirty minutes.

“Looks like we’ve gotta move,” I mutter, but my gaze lingers on her, taking in every detail like I might not get another chance. The idea hits me hard, settling like a weight in my chest.

She laughs, scrambling to pull on her clothes, but her eyes meet mine, and there’s that flash of something—of us, solid but uncertain at the same time. We don’t say anything, but I feel the words hanging between us, questions I haven’t asked yet.

We’re out the door in record time, but my mind’s already racing as we head down the hall. This thing between us—it’s a hell of a lot more complicated than I’ve been willing to admit.

Suddenly, I can’t shake the feeling that everything might change when we board our separate planes to New York and Los Angeles.
